Colour and Pitch founder and BBE recording artist Sumsuch returns to his own label with brand new solo EP 'Hand Me Down Demons'. Exploring the power held by ghosts from the past to damage or even destroy our relationships if we let them, 'Hand Me Down Demons' is split into three distinct movements. Originating as an improvised piano piece, 'We Should Talk' quickly evolved into a subtle, warm deep house instrumental, with analogue drums and bass providing a bed for plaintive, heartfelt melodies. Title track 'Hand Me Down Demons' has a grittier character, with a heavily tweaked acid bass-led groove and eerie vocal harmonies creating a dense, late-night club atmosphere. 'Slipping Under' closes the EP with simple classical piano composition set over swirling synth atmospheres and distant seagull cries, symbolizing that final, teary-eyed ending. Colour and Pitch label owner Will Sumsuch teams up with friend and occasional DJ partner Danny Williams for 'We Give', a dreamy piece of melodic and spiritual deep house. The pair first met in 2008 during the Movida Corona DJ championships, in which Danny was competing and Will had been asked to act as judge for a regional heat. Danny's impeccable mixing and track selection took him all the way to the UK finals that year, making a lasting impression on Will, who continues to rank Danny among his favourite DJs. It took the pair 8 years of spinning records together to finally get into the studio, but the resulting music is worth the wait. Diving in at the deep end for his first ever studio session, Danny supplies poetic spoken word vocals on both tunes, as well as guiding Will's hand on production and arrangement. Born of a dream, preserved thanks to a mumbled demo tape and finished off in an unlikely collaboration, Colour and Pitch is proud to present "Standstill," the new single from Sumsuch and Gavin Hardkiss. Quirky, melodic and lusciously soulful, "Standstill" was conceived when producer and Colour & Pitch owner Will Sumsuch woke up with the melody and chords running through his mind. "Rather than waiting for the synths to warm up, I simply hummed them all into a mic," he says. "The track came together behind them quickly - just two hours. That's fast - probably faster than I've ever managed to in the past." The final recording retains this homemade, spontaneous feeling, with uplifting lyrics soaring from a hypnotic, immobile hum. Those lyrics are delivered with characteristic passion and optimism by Gavin Hardkiss, who was curious to hear the rough demo and then inspired by the melodies to deliver his vocals on the fly. Since collaborating on ‘Simpatico’, the debut release on Colour and Pitch, US soul-man Will Brock and label boss Sumsuch’s transatlantic partnership has truly blossomed. As ‘Mega Jawns’, their album ‘Ten Letters From Home’ was released in 2014 on BBE Records, with a second album due for release in 2016. Written and recorded in just one night in West Philadelphia during summer 2014, Shine is a spiritual, afro-tinged Deep House track, featuring soaring vocals and life-affirming lyrics from Will Brock. Having created a truly unique remix for their debut single ‘Simpatico’, it seemed only right to ask aloof production maestro Q-Burns Abstract Message to do it again for ‘Shine’. After an insanely busy year, I've finally made it back into the studio with longtime friend and collaborator Matty Eeles. Our hilariously long-winded attempts to make an album continue, but in the meantime, enjoy! 'Colour and Pitch founder Sumsuch has had a busy year, with his ‘Mega Jawns’ project releasing their debut album on BBE Records last autumn. Finding some time to focus on solo material in 2015, he’s returned to the studio with long time friend and collaborator Matty Eeles, working (slowly) towards an album. ‘Find Home’ is a melodic, warm and languid slice of Deep House, with a typically stellar vocal performance from Matty Eeles.
