Starting life as a fragment of melody ringing around the artist's head on the way home from the beach one summer's day, 'Stay For Sunset' is a deceptively simple composition built around a warm, inviting guitar line, live piano and analogue drums. Aside from being one of Sumsuch's favourite words, the 'Gloaming' mix nicely summons up that moment just before night falls, removing the lead guitar but leaving its ghostly imprint across the track, while pulling up the percussion to create a dusky, hypnotic groove." Colour and Pitch label owner Will Sumsuch teams up with friend and occasional DJ partner Danny Williams for 'We Give', a dreamy piece of melodic and spiritual deep house. The pair first met in 2008 during the Movida Corona DJ championships, in which Danny was competing and Will had been asked to act as judge for a regional heat. Danny's impeccable mixing and track selection took him all the way to the UK finals that year, making a lasting impression on Will, who continues to rank Danny among his favourite DJs. It took the pair 8 years of spinning records together to finally get into the studio, but the resulting music is worth the wait. Born of a dream, preserved thanks to a mumbled demo tape and finished off in an unlikely collaboration, Colour and Pitch is proud to present "Standstill," the new single from Sumsuch and Gavin Hardkiss. Quirky, melodic and lusciously soulful, "Standstill" was conceived when producer and Colour & Pitch owner Will Sumsuch woke up with the melody and chords running through his mind. "Rather than waiting for the synths to warm up, I simply hummed them all into a mic," he says. "The track came together behind them quickly - just two hours. That's fast - probably faster than I've ever managed to in the past." The final recording retains this homemade, spontaneous feeling, with uplifting lyrics soaring from a hypnotic, immobile hum. Those lyrics are delivered with characteristic passion and optimism by Gavin Hardkiss, who was curious to hear the rough demo and then inspired by the melodies to deliver his vocals on the fly.
